Activism

This page is dedicated to promoting GCHBA policy positions for the preservation of the park for future generations.

To facilitate further discussions, please review the the GCNP Compendium. It is the collection of special rules that ban drones, closed Deer Creek, controls packrafting, etc.

Current Open GCNP Issues:

  • 2024 Backcountry Fee Increase – The park has proposed a 60% increase in the per person per night fee for backcountry camping.  GCHBA strongly opposes this proposal.  A copy of our submitted comments can be seen here.
  • Back Country Management Plan (BCMP) – Here is a downloadable copy of our position on the BCMP from June 2011. In light of the upcoming comment period, this statement is again under revision. Please feel free to e-mail the GCHBA with comments and concerns that you would like considered. A bit of FAA history on the subject can be found here.
  • Grand Canyon Overflights (Overflight Noise Issues) – Here is a downloadable copy of our position on Grand Canyon Overflights from June 2011. In light of the recent comment period, this statement is again under revision. Please feel free to e-mail the GCHBA with comments and concerns that you would like considered.
  • Pack Rafting Rules and Regulations
  • Rim-to-Rim (R2R) Runners – We strongly advocate an environment of mutual respect and understanding.
