Spring 2006 Service Project

The GCHBA Spring 2006 Service Project took place May 15-19, 2006 at Cottonwood Campground and the Roaring Springs Residence. The residence is the house where Bruce Aiken (pump house operator and artist) and family lived previously. Bruce has retired and the residence is now being used as a PSAR (Preventative Search and Rescue) Ranger station. The bunkhouse portion of the residence is used by the trail crew.

The GCHBA donated an electric trimmer and some trash cans for use at the residence.

The following items were accomplished at the Roaring Springs Residence:

bulletWatered, mowed, trimmed and fertilized the lawn
bulletTrimmed vines over the porch
bulletTrimmed dead and overhanging tree branches
bulletRemoved leaf litter around residence and flower beds
bulletTrimmed windbreak hedge around helipad
bulletRepaired lawn swing
bulletCleaned and defrosted the refrigerators and freezer
bulletCleaned kitchen ranges
bulletCleaned vent hood filters over kitchen ranges
bulletSet mouse traps
bulletWashed some of the windows
bulletCleaned some light fixtures
bulletReplaced some bulbs in light fixtures
bulletRepaired some of the window screens
bulletCleaned and straightened up storage shed
bulletStored mattresses under helipad
bulletAssembled new wheelbarrow
bulletPicked up trash in the general area of the residence
bulletReplaced toilet fill valve in public toilet
bulletAdjusted toilet flapper valve linkage in public toilet
bulletReattached the metal roof on the fire hose shelter
bulletRepaired rock stairway leading to the creek
bulletSent 15 bags of trash out by mule packers
bulletGave out approximately 40 gallons of electrolyte laced lemonade to hikers
bulletTreated a hiker suffering from dehydration

The following items were accomplished at the Cottonwood Campground

bulletInstalled and wired solar cell panels on composting toilets
bulletCleaned debris from fans in composting toilets
bulletTrimmed weeds and grass around trails and toilets
bulletTrimmed weeds and grass around ranger station for fire protection
