Age 42 Grand Canyon Experience: I was 9 years old when I first hiked the Canyon by the time I was twelve I had hiked the Bright Angel, South Kaibab, Hermit, Tonto, and Part of the Boucher. I stopped hiking the canyon and began exploring other parts of Arizona until about 7 years ago when I began hiking it again. Since then I average 4 hikes per year. Half of these hikes involve taking children and teenagers into the Canyon. Our favorite hikes are Rim to Rim, Deer Creek & Thunder River Loop, and Phantom Creek. I also enjoy fly fishing in Bright Angel Creek. I'm currently working on a route into Deer Creek via Vaughn Springs. I'm still trying to get off the Red Wall on that Route. I should have that completed this month. I also enjoy rock climbing but I'm only a novice climber. My most difficult climb to date is a 5.8. Most of my Canyon trips now involve some type of climbing. I joined GCHBA because I have a deep love and respect for the Canyon and I want my children and grandchildren to know and love the same Grand Canyon that I knew as a child. |
