I first hiked in the Canyon in 1963 on an internship scouting trip out west from Indiana. I interned in Phoenix
and became the doctor at the Canyon for a couple years starting in 1965 and eventually moved to Wickenburg
where I've practiced medicine untill the present. I also went to University of Arizona Law School and passed the Bar
but don't like lawyers in general. I've spent over 1300 days "in Canyon" (including being a boatman on raft
trips) and have hiked every trail, route or goat path. I did several trips with Harvey Butchart and told him
where Mystic Springs was off the Bass... which I found by accident. Oddly, I was the doctor for Bill Bass
(son of W. W. Bass) here in Wickenburg and we talked about the Canyon and his family. I dearly love the Canyon and
always feel like I'm "home" when I'm down in there. It's my favorite place in the whole world. |
